Christensen Farms is one of the largest, family-owned pork producers in the United States, marketing approximately 3 million hogs per year. Christensen Farms is the largest shareholder of Triumph Foods LLC, a producer-owned primary pork processing plant in St. Joseph, Missouri. In turn, Triumph Foods members own 50 percent of Daily's Premium Meats, a specialty pork processor of bacon and other premium pork products.  Triumph Foods also holds a 50 percent partnership in Seaboard Triumph Foods, LLC of Sioux City, Iowa, a primary pork processing plant.


Position Overview & Responsibilities:

Purpose of this position is to assist the Financial Leadership Team with financial related activities of the business. This position provides supervision and leadership to the accountants which involves; mentoring accountants; developing business partnering skills in the team and ensuring financial reporting standards of GAAP are being applied; supervising the period end close process to ensure accurate and timely reporting; prioritizing projects, driving analysis and developing and maintaining management reporting. It is expected that this position will invest a significant portion of their time in understanding the business, supporting the business and business partnering with operations and other functions.


Major Areas of Accountability:

  • Develop and maintain managerial reports that meets the needs of the business and that provide the basis for analysis, performance management and accountability
  • Develop and maintain necessary monitoring and controls with consultation and direction of the Controller
  • Supervise and oversee the periodic close process for accounting including the valuation and mark to market processes
  • Supervise 2 positions, developing and selecting talent for the organization provide guidance to direct reports in both daily and monthly responsibilities, reviewing their work, approving entries, escalating issues within the organization and providing direction for priorities
  • Ensure balance sheet reconciliations are complete, accurate and reviewed with Controller quarterly
  • Provide inputs as requested for monthly and quarterly reports/meetings
  • Assist and support in the planning process
  • Supporting annual audit and tax processes



  • Education: This position requires a Bachelor's Degree in accounting or finance.
  • Work Experience: This position requires minimum of 5 years of increasing responsibility within a finance or accounting function.
  • Supervisory Experience: Demonstrated ability to supervise including selection, coaching, and establishing requirements and guidelines for and providing direction to a small team
  • Collaboration; recognizes the other functions that need to be part of the discussion and addresses RASCI to ensure clear expectations with other groups
  • Developed communication skills with ability to communicate at all levels of the organization. Ability to communicate complex issues to many audiences. And recognizes when to include other departments appropriately in discussions and decision making.
  • Must have proven skills and experience in developing and maintaining costing or related operational data including reporting, providing analysis and addressing the appropriate accounting treatment in a processing/manufacturing or agricultural based business.
  • Must demonstrate a strong curiosity around the business and how the accounting and reporting process reflects the activities of the business. In conjunction with the curiosity is the need to be able to translate the activities of the business to changes in the financial metrics.
  • Must be a self-starter and proactive in meeting deadlines
  • Must demonstrate initiative in anticipating changes in reporting and needs for analysis.
  • Must have experience with operational activities such as: inventory movement, warehousing, production processes including yields and costing of inventory.
